Drawing inspiration from the era of Mad Men, the JFK desk is the perfect addition to any study space.
The first desk from NORR11 is a reinterpretation of the classic 60s office table, with practicality, functionality and aesthetics at the very heart of its design. Working out of their multidisciplinary design studio across the fields of spatial, lighting, furniture and product design, Copenhagen-based designers Kristian Sofus Hansen and Tommy Hyldahl strive to combine their passion for Scandinavian tradition, Japanese simplicity and details in timeless pieces of design.
Kristian is a Danish designer operating from NORR11’s studio in Copenhagen. A graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art (KADK) class of 2016, Kristian spent time in Japan studying at the Kyoto Institute of Technology. Kristian started collaborating with Tommy Hyldahl in 2016 but is a familiar face in the NORR11 family after having a design internship at the company in 2014.
A founder and partner at NORR11, Tommy has been involved in the creative direction of the company since the beginning. In 2011, he pursued his passion for materials and product manufacturing when founding NORR11.
The desk’s name pays tribute to the former President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, a known user of this classic Danish style of desk during his years in office – take one look at the JFK and it’s easy to imagine the icon sat behind this beautiful piece. Available in a stylish palisander or black ash veneer finish, the MDF-based table top not only offers a modestly-presidential space to work upon, but also wouldn’t look out of place in the Oval Office thanks to its sophisticated yet simple design.
Each of the three drawers has a height of 4cm making enough space for a laptop, papers and other things you might need to store in a modern desk. They each have an elegant knob made from aluminium with inspiration from old volume knobs from the Jaguar car – it’s the little things that add to the character of this charming piece of furniture.
Albeit 60s in appearance, the JFK has been crafted for the modern-day household. There is a built-in space for a power supply to connect a computer, printer or smartphone charger. The power supply connects through one of the aluminium legs making sure that power cables don’t disturb the overall clean appearance of the desk.
The matte black powder coated aluminium legs meet in the middle underneath the table top, forming a conic shape giving the desk a light and elegant expression. Partner with a dark brown leather office chair for a study space that oozes sophistication.
A feature befitting of its namesake, the JFK desk effortlessly brings cool Scandinavian style to your home.
